The lid must be open when the grenade is to be used. The lid is closed only as an additional safety device, e.g. for rappelling or similar purposes.
The grenades are secured under the elastic band and the securing ring is hooked into the carbine hook

The lid, which closes with Velcro, must be closed when moving before deployment. The grenade is then protected and cannot come loose.
